icon article2016-05-03 :: Agneta Gulz invited speaker for school principals and school management.
The lecture is a rather harsh criticism of the current assessment system in Swedish educational system. A key-point was what Agneta Gulz called “the meta-cognitive epidemic”; students learn how to present the course material according to meta-cognitive assessment templets (in matrix formats) rather than the actual course material itself.

Agneta Gulz argues that the course based grading system in Swedish high school is adverse to learning; a punishing system sorting out students that didn’t manage (or had the luck) to perform on top during all the three high school years. Debate in the southern Swedish newspaper “Sydsvenskan” (SDS).
Extract from the debate article (in Swedish): “Kursbetygssystemet är också lärfientligt i sig självt.

Agneta Gulz focuses on the failure regarding much of the digital educational software used at present in Swedish schools. In this context it is important to distinguish between learning support and materials for practice and testing. Around 95% of all available pedagogical apps have no pedagogical strategy implemented but are in essence drill-&-practice- and/or testing-tools, only providing simple “right-wrong”-feedback.
