Abstract: In the present paper I investigate some
connections between metaphysics and morality. The point of
departure of my discussion are the views put forward on
personal identity py Derek Parfit. The upshot of my
investigation is a defence of the view that personal
identity is a moral notion. Metaphysics and moral philosophy
cannot be pursued in isolation from each other. However,
Parfit to the contrafy notwithstanding, moral considerations
ought to determine our view of personal identity, not the
other way round.
