Description

The course is open to students enrolled in the HAKOG master program. By using computer models, embodied robots in a natural environment, or virtual agents in a digital environment, we can investigate cognitive phenomena such as attention, learning, etc. Within cognitive science we use models of various kinds in order to understand the processes that give rise to cognition. These models attempt to describe the brain or a cognitive phenomenon in a precise manner, e.g. in form of equations or computer programs. The models can be either descriptive or predictive. Descriptive models summarize the data in a uniform shape to provide a better understanding. Predictive models can be used to generate data that can be tested, e.g., in an experiment. The goal of making models may be to explore the cognitive processes or to generate new hypotheses. The goal can be to find biologically inspired approaches to solve technical problems. For example: develop artificial neural networks both to model the brain, and as a technical method. The course is very project-oriented and your are encouraged to develop your own specific prototype systems based on different cognitive models Based on your project, the emphasis may vary - but all include: i) technological development, ii) a broadened knowledge of cognitive science, and iii) a broadnened knowledge of information design. The course is only open to students enrolled in the Masterprogram HAKOG.

Note!

This course is not open as a freestanding course next semester. It can be open for application within a programme or for students in an exchange programme. Please ask your academic advisor for information.

International student?

Make your application in the First Admission Round at universityadmissions.se.

Application period October–January for autumn semester and June–August for spring semester.

First or Second Admission Round?

All international students are encouraged to apply to the First admission round. This round takes place many months before the start of a semester and gives students the time they need to pay their tuition fees, apply for and receive their residence permit (if required), find housing, etc.

The Second admission round is an alternative for students from EU/EEA countries as they do not need a residence permit. Non-EU/EEA students will most likely not have enough time to obtain their permit before the start of the semester. However, even EU/EEA students are advised to apply during the First admission round, as some programmes can be applied for only in the January round. Also, this provides applicants with an admission decision much earlier, which is helpful in making decisions about their studies.
